Rewires in Romsey, Hampshire

With many year’s experience in rewiring homes in Romsey, Hampshire, NDM Electrical often answer the same questions from customers, here are our most common rewire FAQ’s.

NDM Electrical understand that rewiring your home can be stressful and overwhelming, especially if you have some un-answered questions. We try to make the process of rewiring your Romsey home as easy and stress free as possible, this includes answering any questions you may have.

What does a rewire actually consist of?

Our rewire process consists of two parts. Commonly referred to as first and second fix. The first fix is essentially the prep work. We will mark out socket and switch additions as discussed beforehand. We will also protect all your furniture by placing dust sheets everywhere possible. This ensures your Romsey home is protected against any mess we may have to cause. The second fix is where we will replace the whole electrical system and wiring. This will include installation of any additions like extra sockets. We will also upgrade your fuse-box. After everything has been installed and replaced and we are happy with the works, we will begin testing all installations to ensure they are working safely. This is then followed by replastering, redecorating and a big clean up! You may choose your own trusted redecorator although we would be happy to give you some recommendations if needed.

How long does a full rewire take?

This is probably our most asked question. Here at NDM Electrical in Romsey we have a team of 3 qualified electricians who take great pride in their work. We pride ourselves on providing a quality job rather than a quick job. Many electricians will say they can get a rewire done in 1-2 days. Now this might be possible, but it leaves very little time for any personalisation’s like extra sockets and switches, testing, or to fix any issues that may arise. NDM Electrical aim to rewire an average size home in as little as 4 days. This allows us to complete the rewire to the highest possible standard without cutting corners.

How do I know if my home needs rewiring?

If your Romsey home is battling flickering lights, hot sockets or switches (or both!), tripping circuits and more importantly an old-style fuse-box, it’s probably about time to consider rewiring.

Will you need access to the loft?

Yes, we will need to work in the loft. We are happy to work around things where possible. Before the rewire we will visit your Romsey property and assess what needs to be moved beforehand. This will also be well communicated with the customer.

How often does a house need to be rewired?

Electrical safety guidelines recommended homes are rewired around every 25-30 years. Well looked after wiring typically lasts around 30 years. Rewiring is an initial investment, but it lasts a long time and is essential in keeping your Romsey home safe for you and your family.

Will the work be loud? Should I notify my neighbours?

There will be parts of the rewire that will be loud and disruptive. It’s wise to let your neighbours know just to be courteous, especially since so many people work from home these days.

I’m renovating, should I rewire at the same time?

Rewiring during renovations is a great idea. It allows us to work more efficiently and if you are staying elsewhere the rewire will be completed even quicker.

How should I prepare my home for a rewire?

Packing away any sentimental objects and limiting yourselves to certain rooms in the house will be helpful. However, we understand this isn’t always possible. NDM Electrical will do everything we can to work around you and your family and limit disruption as much as possible.

Do I need to redecorate after?

Yes, a plasterer will be needed to amend any mess we create. You can either arrange this yourself or we will happily offer our recommendations.

Will I be left without power?

There will be times we have to turn the power off. However, for lived in rewires we will work on each circuit at a time meaning you will never be left without power overnight or for a long period of time.

We hope this answered some of your burning questions regarding the rewire process, of course if you have any more or want to discuss rewire options, feel free to contact our friendly team here at NDM Electrical in Romsey.
