NDM Electrical Romsey Rewires

Looking for a qualified electrician to rewire your Romsey home?

N.D.M Electrical are NICEIC approved domestic installers meaning all our installations and electrical maintenance conforms to British standards, this ensures your home’s electrical system is up to date and meets all current electrical safety standards.

A rewire is vital to keep your home running safely. If your home is between 25-40 years old, a rewire is almost always needed. Old wiring and electrical systems mean our homes can’t keep up with the demand for power that’s needed. Thanks to modern technology many older homes don’t have enough sockets that we now need to power all our devices. A rewire allows us to add more sockets and switches as well as improve electrical safety and limit the risks of fire and power surges due to poor, deteriorated wiring. Other signs you may need a rewire include:

  • Tripping electrics
  • Hot sockets & switches
  • Flickering lights
  • An old-style fuse-box

A rewire will include upgrading your old fuse-box to the modern version, the consumer unit. Consumer units are much safer as they don’t require the fuse to melt, instead when a fault is detected, the unit will shut off the electrical circuit. This reduces the risk of electrical shocks and fires.

If you have an older style fuse-box, like many Hampshire homes do, don’t worry. Fuse-boxes have a long-life span so although its older it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dangerous.

EICR

If you suspect your Romsey home may need a rewire, we will advise an EICR so we can fully understand the age and condition of the wiring and any faults that may be identified. After the EICR we may find that just a partial rewire is needed or maybe just a fuse-box upgrade, here at N.D.M Electrical we are honest and trustworthy, our aim is to ensure your home works efficiently and most importantly, safely.

Things to consider before a Rewire:

  • Sockets & Switches: A rewire is the perfect time to up the number of sockets and switches. We can even add USB ports. Just let us know how many extras would be most suitable and we will do our best to accommodate this.
  • Lived in or Empty: A lived in rewire will take considerably longer as we will have to move things around and consider leaving extra time to clean up at the end of the day. If you have the option to move in with family or friends for the process, it will be much quicker.
  • Renovations: Thinking of renovating any time soon? A rewire will likely be needed, especially for an extension.
  • Redecorating: After the rewire a plasterer and decorator will be required. We can either recommend someone or of course you can arrange this separately.

So, what’s involved in a rewire?

A full rewire is normally conducted in two phases, these are known as first and second fixes. The first fix is essentially prepping the house. The second fix is where we install extra sockets, switches and upgrade all wiring and electrics. This is then followed by a big clean up! A rewire typically lasts anywhere from 2-10 depending in the size of the property. On average though, a rewire will last around 5 days. Any unexpected issues that come up, we will of course handle accordingly and will always explain what the issue is and what is needed to fix this. We understand this process may be stressful so our aim here at N.D.M Electrical is to communicate clearly and make this time as stressless as possible.
